Weightier Matters
Of course
judgment, mercy, faith—
but there are enemies we love to hate,
sinners we aren’t sorry for.
Pharisees, for instance.
No one hesitates to cast stones
at self-righteous Puritans.
They have their reward.
Even Jesus called them out.
Surely he’ll forgive our failure
to cry Jerusalem, Jerusalem!
over a few worthless chickens.
It’s a shame they can’t see as we do
all the dead bones
they hold inside.
